In 2019, Mmapula Malatji faced a moment of truth when her matric results fell short of her expectations. The disappointment could have been a defining moment, but instead, it became a turning point in her journey towards success. Born in Makhubidung village under greater Tzaneen Municipality, 22-year-old Mmapula recently graduated obtaining a Bachelor of Arts in Communications at the University of Limpopo in record time and is currently enrolled for an Honors degree.

Drawing back to high school through hard work and determination, Malatji exceeded expectations, excelling in her grade 12 exams in 2020 and enrolled in BA program at the University of Limpopo in 2021. “As a student, I faced several challenges including managing a heavy workload, balancing academic and personal life and overcoming periods of self doubt,” She recalls. Despite having financial challenges with NSFAS funding not covering her fees, she conquered.
“Throughout my academic journey, my parents played a significant role in inspiring me, their support, sacrifices and encouragement were crucial in motivating me to pursue and excel in my studies.” she states. She mentioned having achieved her academic goals through dedication, time management and perseverance.

Malatji embarked on her honors degree, despite facing financial difficulties including having no funding for her fees and owing the institution. Throughout her journey, she has shown that success is not solely defined by age, timing or initial results but determination and hard work.
“ Stay focused on your goals and don’t be afraid to ask for help when you need it. Break your tasks into manageable chunks, be organized and keep a positive mindset,” she asserts.
