University of Limpopo’s Centre for Academic Excellence (CAE) hosted the 2025 Supplemental Instruction (SI) Gala Dinner and Awards, as they filled the Bolivia Lodge Conference Hall with energy, laughter, and music as the The night celebrated SI Leaders and Administrators for their dedication and impact throughout the academic year.
The evening opened with a reflective prayer from Mabore Thosago, Baditi Student Support Programme Coordinator, who expressed gratitude and asked for guidance, setting a warm tone for the celebrations. Prof Owence Chabaya, Acting Director of CAE, officially welcomed guests, reminding everyone of the value of their work.

“Don’t underestimate the effort you put in,” she said. “Your contributions reach all the way to the Department of Higher Education, shaping reports and influencing teaching and learning at UL. You guide your peers and build academic confidence every day.”
She further noted that the role of SI Leaders is central to the University of Limpopo’s teaching and learning environment, as they guide their peers and help build academic confidence.

The keynote address by motivational speaker, mentor, and educator, Madimetja Chepape inspired the room, whose motto is Sehlare sa Mosotho ase Legowa ke Thuto. Chepape encouraged the leaders with a heartfelt message “SI Leaders, you didn’t just perform your duties, you exceeded them, showing passion, commitment, and excellence,” he said.
Adding a splash of colour and rhythm, SI Leader Jasmine Koka delivered a lively Rumba performance, energizing the audience before the awards segment.

Awards were presented by SI Supervisor Ms Agnes Mohale and Dr Makhudu Mosela. Honours student Serai Israel, named Overall Best SI Leader of the Year, said,

“This recognition is not just personal; it’s a testament to the collaborative spirit of the SI Programme. Don’t just aim to teach—aim to empower. Your impact is profound.”
Other honourees included Phetolo Amazement Mokgotho, who felt valued for his dedication, and Malema Mosusumedi Rose, the longest-serving SI Leader and Administrator, who reflected, “I am truly humbled. I’m happy to have made a difference.”

The night ended with laughter, dancing, and celebratory toasts—a fitting tribute to UL’s SI Leaders, whose unwavering commitment continues to inspire peers and strengthen academic excellence across campus.
