The University of Limpopo’s Faculty of Science and Agriculture (FSA) transformed the R40 Conference Hall into an arena of academic celebration in 2025. Organised by the Faculty School Representative Council (SRC) and led by Prof. Hasani Chauke from the Office of the Director in the School of Physical and Mineral Sciences, the event honoured students whose outstanding achievements distinguished them across the faculty’s four schools and seven programmes.
Prof. Chauke highlighted the purpose of the awards, stating: “It serves to encourage and motivate students to commit and work hard in their studies.”

The awards, presided over by Prof. Thabe Masebatlela, took a competitive approach by recognising only first-place achievers. Recognition was structured across three tiers: the first celebrated top students in individual modules, with over 27 students receiving awards; the second honoured each school’s champions; and the third recognised the overall best achievers of the faculty.
Among the standout recipients was Mashudu Ntimbane (Honours in Computer Science), who received three awards, including overall best student in the School of Mathematical and Computer Science. He described his success as “a manifestation of God’s grace and relentless hard work,” adding his mantra: “Dreams become real only when you work smart daily.”

Jason Mathebula (BSc Level 3), the top achiever in the School of Physical and Mineral Sciences, attributed his success to “sleepless nights and divine guidance.” He affirmed: “Excellence demands pushing beyond limits.”

Minah Matheta (Honours in Zoology), who won four awards including overall best student in the School of Molecular and Life Sciences, dedicated her achievements to her support system. “This is proof that determination and faith move mountains,” she said.

Valencia Mashegwana (BSc Agricultural Management), who collected five awards, including overall best student in the School of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences. Reflecting on her journey, she said: “This validates my journey from Ga-Mashegwana’s dusty roads. If I can rise, so can anyone.”

Faculty SRC representative Heaven Pitsa expressed pride in the winners: “Congrats to those who crushed 2024! We are proud of you.”
In closing, Prof. Chauke encouraged students to remain focused on their goals: “Even if you did not win this year, keep working hard. Your opportunity will come, and when it does, it will be worth it.”
The event concluded with excitement for the coming academic year, as the 2025 achievers set new standards for future students to aspire to.
