The University of Limpopo International Students Organization (ULISO), in collaboration with the Office of International Affairs (OIA), recently hosted a vibrant and inclusive game night at MBL Dining Hall. The event was aimed at welcoming international students back from recess while fostering friendships and social integration with local peers.
Held ahead of the second semester, the initiative sought to create a relaxed environment where students could unwind, learn informally, and connect with others.
“The event is a success already you can see that the students are many and very happy,” said Jabu Makhubela from the Office of International Affairs.

Students from various African countries came together to enjoy a range of games including UNO, Jenga, 30 Seconds, Monopoly, and Charades. The event was less about competition and more about camaraderie. Students rotated between tables, playing different games in mixed groups, which encouraged new conversations and friendships.

Snacks and drinks were provided, adding to the relaxed and social atmosphere as students laughed, bonded, and shared stories from their academic journeys.
ULISO President Loveness Sawada and her executive team Kimberley Jeche, Priscilla Boabeng, Leenah Matenga, Irvine Mutodi, and Marlon Madzivanyia worked closely with OIA representatives Malose Lebelo, Jabu Makhubela, and Tshepang Modipane to ensure the evening was both welcoming and enjoyable.

- Ingrid Blessings Kudzaishe Macheza (Zimbabwe), BAcc – Accounting
- Ajayi Adebowale Peter (Nigeria), BSc Mathematical and Computer Science
- Pretty Chiweta (Zimbabwe), BDEV – Development and Planning Management
- David Usifo (Nigeria), BSc Life Science
- Tinotenda Liberty Navhaya (Zimbabwe), MSc Biochemistry
- Osofekun Sharon Dorcas (Nigeria), BSc Life Sciences
Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) student Vukeya Palisa Leon noted the event’s positive impact: “Being part of ULISO created a space for interaction and collaboration. Meeting new people of different cultures was fun and reviving.”
Priscilla Boabeng, an Honours BCom Accounting student from Ghana, added: “ULISO offers great help to international students. It helps us settle in without fear and socialize freely.”
By the end of the evening, many students were smiling and reluctant to leave proof that sometimes, the best way to build community is through laughter, play, and a short break from books.
