In a world where cultural diversity is often oversimplified, the University of Limpopo’s Residence Tsa Manyalo dance group defies stereotypes, inspiring students to reconnect with and celebrate their rich heritage.

Founded by Itumeleng M. Chidi, this dance group emerged from a deep passion for Bapedi culture and quickly grew through residence WhatsApp groups, inviting students across campus to join. Today, the group is a living testament to how music and dance can build social unity, peace, and pride.

The group’s performances are an electrifying blend of tradition and modern style, rooted in the heart of Sepedi culture. “The UL Residence Tsa Manyalo dance group encourages you to celebrate and be proud of your heritage and identity. Music unites, preserves, and fosters social cohesion,” says Chidi. Inspired by renowned Manyalo musicians like Pleasure and Maredi, their routines fully capture the richness and diversity of Sepedi culture, captivating audiences with every performance.

Beyond their presence at university events, Tsa Manyalo has become integral to UL’s cultural fabric. Composed solely of UL students, the group provides a unique outlet for physical fitness, mental wellness, and stress relief. The challenging routines offer members a constructive way to bond, de-stress, and promote mental well-being through the powerful energy of dance.

The UL Residence Tsa Manyalo dance group embodies cultural pride and unity, inspiring students to embrace their heritage. Under Chidi’s leadership, this dynamic collective has grown into a beacon of music’s transformative power, reminding audiences to honor their roots, celebrate their identities, and let rhythm bring people together.
