A team from the Centre for Student Counselling and Development (CSCD), along with Peer Counsellors from the University of Limpopo, visited the Itumeleng Drop-In Centre as part of the Mandela Day Donation Drive. The visit aimed to give back to the community through the donation of essential items and meaningful interaction with the children.
The Peer Counsellors donated food, bookcases, and snacks to the centre. More importantly, they spent the day engaging with the children educating them about the significance of Mandela Day, playing games, and hosting quiz sessions where children won prizes for correct answers.
“We wanted to celebrate Mandela Day by giving to the underprivileged, and we are happy that we were able to share what we have, spread love, and spend the day playing games with the kids,” said Nhlanhla Moleleki, a Registered Counsellor.
The children enjoyed a variety of games, including Red Light Green Light, Simon Says, hopscotch, and football. The Peer Counsellors enthusiastically led the activities and joined in the fun.
“I am very excited because everything went as planned. We managed to deliver all the donations to the daycare centre. Playing with the kids was fun, and seeing their smiling faces truly nourished our hearts,” said Dina Rakgeledi, Deputy Project Manager and Peer Counsellor.
I. Phokongoana, manager of the Itumeleng Drop-In Centre, expressed her heartfelt gratitude. “I am very happy about the visit from the University of Limpopo Peer Counsellors. They have made us feel seen and appreciated. May God bless them for the gifts they brought.”
The Mandela Day Project concluded with joy, laughter, warm hugs, and a group photo to commemorate the meaningful day.
