The School of Health Care Sciences recently hosted its 2nd Annual Interdepartmental Debate, bringing together students from various disciplines to engage in thought-provoking discussions on pressing health-related issues. This year’s debate focused on healthcare issues that encouraged students to think creatively and develop innovative solutions.
Students from the departments of Pharmacy, Optometry, Nursing Sciences, and Human Nutrition and Dietetics took center stage, showcasing their research prowess, sharp critical thinking, and effective communication skills. The debate provided a dynamic platform for students to exchange ideas, challenge each other’s perspectives, and gain valuable insights from their peers.

By focusing on pressing healthcare issues, the debate inspired students to think outside the box and craft innovative solutions. The participants showcased remarkable expertise, handling complex topics with ease, confidence, and authority.
In a closely contested battle, the Pharmacy department took the top spot, edging out last year’s champions, Optometry. Despite a strong showing from the Optometry team, the Pharmacy department’s meticulous research and compelling arguments ultimately won the judges’ favour.
The interdepartmental debate is more than just a competition, it’s an opportunity for students to develop essential skills in critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration. By bringing together students from different disciplines, to foster a sense of community and promotes interdisciplinary understanding.

This year’s debate was a huge success, thanks to the tireless efforts of students, faculty, and staff. The School of Health Care Sciences clearly prioritizes giving students’ chances to develop key skills and become industry leaders through events like this interdepartmental debate.
