The University of Limpopo Boxing Club (UL) recently participated in a developmental tournament organized by the Limpopo Boxing Organisation in collaboration with the Capricorn Department of Sports, Arts, and Culture. Held at the Lynch Boxing Club in Polokwane, the tournament aimed to enhance the skills, strategy, technique, and talent of boxers from various districts in Limpopo.

According to UL Boxing Club captain Gift Matleka, boxing is more than just a sport; it is an art form that promotes discipline, confidence, endurance, and health. “Boxing helps with weight loss, reduces academic stress, and lowers blood pressure, making it a great tool for both physical and mental well-being,” said Matleka, expressing his pride in the club’s participation in the event.

UL’s participants included Blessing Kganyago, Khutso Nkgoeng, Lucky Lebopo, Blessing Sebanyoni, Adolph Mahlatse, Tshepiso Chauke, and Marcus Tshirame. Among them, two standout boxers managed to secure medals. Blessing Kganyago, a first-year BSc (Agriculture and Animal Production) student, represented the club as the only female boxer in the Super Bantamweight category. Lucky Lebopo, a second-year social work student, earned the second medal in the Welterweight category, displaying outstanding sportsmanship and passion.

UL Boxing Club coach Mashile Enuel commended the team for their patience, skill, and resilience. However, he noted that endurance and stamina need improvement and expressed hope for even better results in future tournaments. Overall, both the coach and the boxers were pleased with their dedication and performance in the ring, marking the tournament as a success.
